As I look back on my time at Bowie State University, I‘ve learned the value of perseverance and patience. Those two attributes allowed me to successfully pursue my doctoral degree.
One of the most memorable experiences at Bowie State University was preparing for the comprehensive examination. It was remarkable how supportive my peers were with each other. They banded together, studied and shared strategies to successfully complete the examination.
One of my main challenges was how balance time as a dedicated full-time employee and a committed family man, while vigorously pursuing a doctoral degree. One never succeeds only by their own deeds. I had very strong family support. I also had the strength and determination to make personal sacrifices necessary to be successful.
The professor who had the most profound impact on me had to be Dr. White. She is extremely knowledgeable and knew how to motivate, push and encourage me to produce the right response at the appropriate time.
I plan to continue to collaborate with my colleagues to develop researched-based programs that successfully reduce the dropout rates, while also creating innovative ways to address the problem.
I currently serve as a pupil personnel worker for Prince George’s County Public Schools System. I will continue to seek positions where I can contribute to a holistic approach to addressing the needs of high school dropouts.
