Describe one of your most memorable experiences as a student at Bowie State University and what it meant to you?

I cannot express enough how much the faculty in the College of Education, Department of Educational Leadership, guided and helped to bring to fruition my graduate experience. The faculty and staff made the process so memorable that I plan to be a major advocate for Bowie State University's graduate program in Educational Leadership. Not only did they provide the guidance, mentoring, and motivation needed to complete the doctoral degree but exuded a caring and giving spirit that went beyond expectation.

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

I plan to focus on the things I love most: Jesus Christ (study and spread the Word), family, music, health and physical training.

What would you say was the key to your success at BSU? What one thing would you have done differently?

My relationship with Christ was the key to my success. If I could have changed one thing it would have been to complete the doctoral degree earlier in my career and commit one or two years solely to research.

Describe the most significant challenge that you faced at BSU and how you overcame it to succeed?

The most significant challenge at BSU was to remain fully engaged in a primary research study while continuing to meet the needs of the students and serve the university community. This obstacle was overcome by perseverance, incessantly striving for excellence, and having a commitment to give my best all of the time.

What activities were you involved in at BSU? (Research, internship, athletics, leadership role, special class project, study abroad, service, etc.) How do you think these activities might help you in future roles?

As Director of University Bands, I was involved in athletic events, curriculum development, commencement, convocation and homecoming committee planning, as well as student, fraternity and sorority advising. In addition, I completed a quantitative correlational research study "Analyzing the Relationship between Personality Types and Leadership Styles of University and College Band Directors".

Who was your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professors were Dr. Eleanor White, Dr. Zollie Stevenson, Jr. and Dr. Harold Aubrey because they are consummate educators who give so much more than what is required. They elicit thoughts, are provocatively tenacious and expect excellence from all BSU graduate students.

Did you write a thesis and what was the subject? Why did you choose that topic and how does it relate to your future career plans?

The title of my dissertation was "Analyzing the Relationship between Personality Types and Leadership Styles of University and College Band Directors." Originally, I planned to study the leadership and personality types of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, and university presidents but eventually decided on university and college band directors.

Also, are you planning to pursue a Ph.D. or other graduate study? If so, when and where, and what will you study?

I am a lifelong learner and plan to investigate religion and spirituality more in depth.
