Bowie State offers a bachelor’s degree in theater arts, with a choice of studies in acting/directing or dance movement. The program also offers minors in theater arts or dance. Through mentorship and practical training, graduates emerge from the program with strong technical skills and a unique artistic vision. You will:
- Understand the fundamentals of theater and explore specialized skills in acting, directing, stagecraft, children’s theatre, dance and playwriting.
- analyze a variety of performance and dramatic texts.
- Effectively utilize voice and body as an instrument of performance.
- Learn the art of self-promotion in the business of theatre and dance.
Bowie State alumni have appeared in numerous national touring productions including The Color Purple, Aida and Hairspray. Students who pursue graduate studies are also well prepared to succeed.
