Simulation Labs

Bowie State’s Department of Nursing is housed in the award-winning Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing —one of the region’s premier facilities for transformational learning and research. The state-of-the-art nursing wing reflects the latest thinking in nursing education and enables students to hone their critical thinking and judgment skills.

Cutting-edge Learning Tools
Students learn basic skills in a 12-station skills lab that simulates a hospital setting. Later, they refine their clinical expertise in simulation rooms equipped with high-fidelity manikins, which include a birthing mother and an infant. Full medical assessments are performed in an examination suite that features medical records stations. The nursing wing also includes debriefing rooms where faculty can provide an immediate review of students’ activity.

The simulation center is designed to flexibly change as new educational strategies emerge. Some of the student-centered features include:

  • 1 nursing simulation wing
  • 23 research and instructional labs
  • 14 flexible classrooms
  • 5 active learning classrooms and labs
